STUPID HOMERUN PENALTIES... I am like any other player and don't agree 100% with the homerun penalities; but just any other player we abide by them and keep playing the game for love of the game.
The whole hitting the middle is a decision by that particular player becuase he has no bat control and has to hit middle just to keep it in the park. I do understand that sometimes a player hits the middle because of the pitch count and or the pitch. I understand that hitting the middle is part of the game, because I pitch as well; but I do not appreciate players hitting the middle because they have no bat control or becuase they do not know how to control the ball off the bat. I can pick out more players at any park on any given weekend that do not need to hit the middle just to keep the ball in the park; and if you are a player that needs to hit middle then you need to go and take more BP to learn how to go back side with any pitch or learn how to do more creative things in the batters box. Just remember that if you are one of the players that hit the middle all the time, your pitcher has to take the mound as well.
Know back to the orginal discussion on hand: Home runs are fun to watch, and definately gets a team fired up. But coming from an E class player we can't hit them at all and I have a team full of players that know how to keep the ball down and out of the middle. On the other hand any of us can swing away and let the ball fly if we get the chance to. If you feel like you can hit homeruns all day every swing then go play B or A ball and swing away, but you will also find that those guys don't alway swing for the fences. The decision's made by the directors to take homeruns away are already made, and most likely made to force players to learn how to play defense and hone their talents with the bat.
The answer is not more homeruns, that will not keep players from hitting the middle. The answer is awareness from the batter and his ability to be crafty in the box and his ability to do what ever he wants to do with the bat.
